If you’re visiting Aberystwyth soon then may I recommend checking out Google’s new Street View of the town! – This will allow you to get familiar with the area before you arrive… that way you know where to park… places to eat etc before you even get here.

Even at the end of February Cenarth Falls (7.9 miles from Cardigan) is a lovely place to enjoy a picnic on a Sunday afternoon.

Although there isn’t a lot to do here it’s a great place to sit and relax and enjoy the scenery.

Many people come to Cenarth Falls to fish for Salmon in October and is also home to the Coracle. A small raft like boat which I do believe you can have a go in during the summer period.

It’s also a great place to have a picnic with the family.

This is a wonderful beach located here in Wales! – You can drive and park up on the beach and take a walk over the sand dunes to the long beach on the other side. It stretches all the way up to Upper Borth and is great to cycle on, walk on and just have some fun.

It’s also a great place to take your sledges for sand sledging! – because of the large sand dunes.

The Sunsets are also very nice indeed.

The Dangers

My girlfriend and I travelled to Ynyslas like we often to do to watch the Sunset, but this time it was different.

On the way back to the car after watching a beautiful Sunset together we noticed there was another car close to the river bank. I was going to walk over to him to see if he needed a hand but I thought on my way out I’d drive near him, wind down my window and ask.

I proceeded over there and asked if he needed a hand, he said that he had gotten stuck in the sand and that the AA and Police had been called. Then I noticed, I was stuck too!

How Stupid of me, whilst trying to do a good deed I was stuck too.

I called out the RAC and they said they’d send one, meanwhile the Police had turned up and said they can’t do anything, meanwhile the tide was coming in!

The guy began to empty his car of his belongings when I asked what he was doing, he said he didn’t want his stuff to get wet!

In the end the Guy’s family members turned up and we all pushed to get each other’s cars out. The AA and RAC called a local Garage with a 4×4 to tow us out, on the way home they turned up. The AA had landed the guy with a call out fee which he had to pay, but the RAC had paid mine for me, Thank you RAC.

Just remember, be careful and park your car as far as you can away from the Water, the sand can get pretty soft when wet.

Don’t let it put you off driving on the sand though, it’s a lovely place and only 1 of few which you can do so.

I have decided to setup a small travel guide blog as my personal blog: http://www.rhys.eu is getting a little too full for Ceredigion Travel information and I thought it would be good to have a seperate website for all of this useful information.

The purpose of this website is to give a brief guide to the places that I have travlled too, giving personal accounts and tips wherever possible. The majority of the photopgraphs used on here will be of my own taking and if I use other photographs I will do my best to link to their original source.

Hope you find it interesting!

If you’ve come to Ceredigion for a day or even a couple of days there’s a wide variety of things to do and places to visit. Here in this article I’m going to take you on a journey along the Ceredigion coast showing you some of my favourite places to visit.

A lot of these places can actually all be viewed in one day as I have done in the past but you can find yourself staying in one or two places all day.

Mwnt – Starting Point

I always like to start at this beach as it’s close to Cardigan which has a Tesco which is ideal to pick up some pic-nic food. The actual beach is situated at the bottom of a hill with quite a lot of steps going down to it but the beach is well worth it! – but can get very busy in the summer. You can also walk past an old church to the top of a hill where you can enjoy some spectacular views whilst eating your lunch.

Aberporth –

Now I’m not 100% sure without looking at a map but I’m pretty sure Aberporth comes first before Tresaith. In any case Aberporth offers a very large beach as you can see in the photo and is very popular with families.

Tresaith – Waterfall and Beach

Now as you can see in the title the beach has a waterfall and is one of the main attractions that this beach has to offer. The Waterfall is just around the right hand side corner of the beach but would recommend you go when the tide is out so you can walk around to it, otherwise you’ll have to walk over a lot of rocks. The Waterfall may look small but is really quite powerful!

Llangrannog

Next alone the coast is Llangrannog, very popular with families again and with an educational centre nearby that offers a variety of activities for schools to take part in (quad biking etc), they often travel here and stay for a week or two. The beach also has a few small caves in the hill side on the right.

New Quay –

I really quite like New Quay, there are two small beaches and a harbour where you can often see Dolphins just off of the coast. There’s also a lifeboat station that you can walk around too. The curry and chips are brilliant and you can sit on the harbour wall when you eat them to admire the view. The town has a few pubs and shops and can get extremely busy in the summer, there aren’t many pay and display car park spaces on the seafront but there are a few when you first drive in.

Not that far away from New Quay is a honey farm which is also a great visiting point!

Aberaeron – Honey Ice Cream

Talking of Honey, Aberaeron is known for its honey ice cream shop near the Harbour. There’s also a few shops here and again has great fish and chips but can get really busy with extremely limited car parking. However it’s a great place to stop off at.

Aberystwyth – Student Town

The biggest town along the Ceredigion coast is Aberystwyth which is home to over 10,000 students during term time. There are also a lot more shops and eating places here and brand names that you’ll recognise! – Two large beaches (North and South) which makes it popular with families. You can also get on a tram which takes you at the top of Constitution Hill which will give you some amazing views. If you’re really feeling fit why not walk up?

Clarach Bay

A small beach between Aberystwyth and Borth. You may have already heard of this place as it’s surrounded by static caravan parks. This is a really nice beach but have only ever seen it in the winter as I know for sure you won’t get a car park space unless you stay at one of the parks.

Upper Borth

Just up the coast a bit further you’ll come across Borth. If you travel through to this place from Aberystwyth try and go through the country roads as you’ll get a view of the entire long beach of Borth before you drop down the hill.

There are a couple of tourist shops and a lot of pubs.

Ynyslas

Just up a little further from Borth you’ll come to a beach that you can drive on! – lots and lots of sand this long wide beach joins Borth beach.

If you park on the sand you’ll have to either walk around the sand dunes or over them to get to the beach. Also be careful not to park too close to the estuary as the sand is quite soft and you could end up getting stuck like me!

Aberdovey

Probably not being able to complete all the other places and Aberdovey in one day this is also a very nice place to visit. The sand is really clean the beach goes on for miles. There are only a couple of small shops here but with ample pay and display car parking. This is a great beach with great views but it’s difficult to get to as you have to drive miles around the estuary!
